➜ See What They Think About Those Living With Sight Loss

Meet some of Donna's friends and associates who interact with those living with sight loss!

These are just some of the many folks who continue to truly admire how those living with sight loss are able to function and contribute in a sighted world!

In short! The result is unanimous! There is no limit to what persons with sight loss can do as long as they are willing, ready, and open to expanding their horizons!

➜ See what Jerome, a sighted sports coach has to say.

1. Persons with sight loss can participate because there is a rattle inside the foam tennis ball, which means players can track the movement (speed, distance) based on the sound of the ball. Blind Tennis Toronto provides a venue for players to get together and play.

2. Persons with sight loss can participate in most sports including rock climbing, cycling, dragon boat, and of course tennis. Granted the sport is modified and we play with adapted equipment, we are able people who enjoy the sport in the highest capacity with the help of volunteers in the sighted and non-sighted community.

3. Many sighted players can still enjoy sporting activities with the help of volunteers and adapted equipment. Yes, sight loss is a limitation but it doesn't take the entire experience away. The experience is just different, that's all.

➜ Meet Nadia Shiskina, an experienced chess coach who shares her experiences and thoughts.

Nadia first came in contact with chess players in Saint Petersburg Russia when she visited an organization where blind and vision impaired chess players were engaged in playing chess.

Nadia immediately noticed that these players were playing with boards and pieces that were different to what she as a sighted player was used to be playing with. The boards were made up of squares where the raised squares were white and the sunken squares were black. In addition, the white pieces did not have points on their tops whereas the black pieces did.

Nadia did not teach these players; instead, she gave them some tips on how to be better at their game. It was not until she met Donna Jodhan that she had actual experiences at teaching a person with sight loss how to play chess.

Donna has been the only student with sight loss that Nadia has taught in Canada and the two have developed a very strong and lasting friendship. Nadia fervently believes that there is no reason why anyone with sight loss cannot learn how to play chess and to be good at it.

Nadia goes on to explain that when sighted players play games of blind chess, it is really no different than a person with sight loss doing the same. She also believes that persons with sight loss can excel at playing the piano, learning how to dance, and even enjoying how to learn to skate.

➜ See what Andrew Johnson, Notary Public, thinks.

Andrew shares his views on how things can be made easier for practicing attorneys as well as for potential legal professionals with sight loss.

"Firstly, it appears to me that a visually impaired person would have a distinct advantage over all others in being able to focus more fixedly and concentrate without distraction on whatever was required academically for him/her to graduate or be admitted to practice.

Consequently, I suggest that universities/governments/law associations develop a fast track, a gifted class, Ivy League for the visually impaired, the sole objective being to accelerate their graduation or admission to practice finally.

Secondly, the development of technological tools to increase the acuteness of the 5 other senses in terms of easier recording of statements and court proceedings, for example, which will more efficiently communicate the demeanour of witnesses, the judge/magistrate and attorneys at law on the other side including but not limited to braille & talking books and the provision of financial assistance to develop these."
