As A Blind Advocate
#8C - Highlights
Original Release: 9/13/2019
It is somewhat difficult for me to share some of my highlights with you and I will state emphatically that these highlights have not been chosen necessarily because of victories.
They have been chosen because of having been able to help make a difference! To help make a contribution to the future of our kids and to help the sighted world to gain a better understanding of the world of those who are blind and vision impaired!
2010 - Success at the lower Court against the Canadian Government over their inaccessible websites.
2012 - Success at the Court of Appeal against the Canadian Government over their inaccessible websites.
2019 - The enactment of Bill C-81 for an accessible Canada.
2007 - Success at the CHRC against Statistics Canada over their hiring processes.
2019 - Success at the CHRC against the GTAA over services being offered to persons who are blind and vision impaired.
With special thanks to David Baker and his staff, Jutta Treviranus, Dianne Wintermute, the Alliance for Equality of Blind Canadians, and the late Chris Stark.
To all of those who rallied around me! We did our best and our best was ours to celebrate!
"Life doesn't require that we be the best, only that we try our best." - H. Jackson Brown Jr.

3 Photos from 2010:
1.) Donna in red smiling. (2010)
2.) Close up photo of a bronze statuette of a blindfolded woman holding out the scales of justice in her right hand. Blurred in the background is the flag of Canada.
3.) Illustration. Three celebratory banners with alternating rows of red and white drop downs showcasing maple leaves overlap across the top. In the bottom right corner are three Canadian flags waving in the wind. In the bottom left corner is the Barrier Free Canada / Sans Barriere Canada logo. Below the BFC / CSB logo are the words 'Bill C-81 The Accessible Canada Act'. Confetti of all different colors rains down from above.
