We can bet you anything that choosing a vacation is probably one of the most difficult things to do. Especially so when you have a family to satisfy. In this article, we are going to concentrate on the single person and how best to go about choosing the right type of vacation.

There is nothing worse than going on a vacation to a specific destination because your friend recommended it and returning home not having enjoyed it. Especially so if you have just spent a tidy sum of money on said vacation.

In this article we are going to show you how to choose the right type of vacation, and at the same time how to get your money's worth along with the maximum satisfaction.

Not possible you say? We disagree and we will show you how to maximize all three; the right type of vacation, your money's worth, and top satisfaction.

First off, you need to recognize that there are different types of vacation; for relaxation, for enjoyment, for discovering new places, and for checking out new opportunities. In short, a leisurely vacation versus a working vacation.

It is very important that you keep this in mind as you go about planning your vacation. There is nothing worse than not being able to determine this before you depart. You should never think of going on a vacation for relaxation and then use it to scope out job opportunities. We guarantee that you will return in a very unhappy mood.

Or you should never plan to go on a vacation to discover new places and then use it to relax. You could never maximize your objectives in this case.

What we are telling you is this! Never set out on a vacation for one reason and then end up using it for another. These two variables simply do not get along; combining objectives often lead to disaster.

Next, the length of time that you wish to make your vacation. Make it too short and you will not return in a happy frame of mind. Make it too long and you will return home feeling as if you wasted your time.

Now comes one of the most important things for your consideration. How much money do you wish to spend on your vacation? Are you comfortable taking from your savings to go on your trip? Or do you have to put it on your credit card and if so are you comfortable doing this?

This is probably what you need to consider before booking your trip. Some people do not mind going into some form of debt in order to take a vacation while others do mind. There is nothing worse than spending your vacation worrying about how you are going to pay for it.

Finally, these points:

  1. You need to determine if you wish to vacation alone or with someone else or with others. This is important as it will also determine the type of vacation you are able to take.

  2. Your preference for a guided tour, cruise, or going off on your own.

  3. Type of destination; within your state or province, within North America, or overseas.

  4. Time of year; winter, summer, spring, or fall. This factor will help to determine the type of vacation you take.
