Now we are going to give you a list of techniques to help you choose that most appropriate gift. Think of this list as important things to keep in mind when you next go gift shopping.

  • How well do you know the person?

  • What is the occasion that you are shopping for?

  • What is the gender of the person that you are shopping for?

  • Will this be a gift for a single person or for a couple?

  • What is the approximate age of the person?

  • What is the status of the person, single or married?

  • Is the person retired, working, student, parent, or other?

It is also going to help you if you could determine as much of the following before you set out on your gift hunt for that most appropriate gift:

  • Hobbies of the person.

  • Do they collect anything special or in particular?

  • Are they presently looking for anything in particular for their home or office?

  • What are their tastes when it comes to such things as clothes, books, jewellery, or fragrances?
Some pitfalls to avoid:
  • Do not give gifts of clothes, jewellery, or perfumes to someone that you may not know very well.

  • Give a gift that reflects what you yourself would appreciate someone giving to you.

  • Do not assume that someone may like what you like.

  • Do not go out and purchase the biggest or most expensive gift.
