Tips from Author Donna Jodhan: Using The Sense of Smell to Develop Ideas - Award Winning Sight Loss Coach, Advocate and Author Donna Jodhan

For this month, I'd like to introduce another way for you to develop your ideas. You may find this suggestion a bit different but trust me when I tell you that it does indeed work.

This may be a good month for you to try out this suggestion as you will no doubt be experiencing the smells of both spring and summer. I use my sense of smell to help me to develop my ideas. I use various smells and fragrances to help me with my writing.

For example: The scent or smell of roses helps me to imagine scenes of rose gardens, walking in a garden on a bright spring day or vases of flowers in a dining room. The delicious smell of baking cookies helps me to formulate scenes that could take place in a kitchen, or scenes of customers in a bakery. The smell of clothes being washed in my washer can help me to develop a scene of someone folding freshly laundered clothes or a mom dressing her little ones in fresh clean garments.

You see, you can easily use your sense of smell to help you associate scenes and objects and bring them together on your mind's canvas. It is really not too difficult and you can have lots of fun and success doing it.

Happy imagining through smelling!
