Section: Mystery of the Month:
***************************************

This month, I'd like to whet your appetite with a brief description of one of my audio mysteries that I have chosen for you. This one is called "Santa's Super Secret" and here is a brief description:

Alex Terrasco had a secret that only two people knew of. He had a desire to fulfill a dream and he used his secret to do just that.

Alex was no different from most of us. He grew up in a normal family environment but at age 13, something unexpected happened to change his life forever. He did not allow this event to stop him from dreaming but alas! He had to put his dream on hold for many years while he took care of business.

Then one day something else happened and Alex was again reminded that he had still not fulfilled his dream. This time however, he made sure that his precious dream was realized!

Santa's Super Secret! A tale of fiction that includes hopes, misadventures, and sadness turned into joy!

December 2014
Time of Year

I always find that the time of the year is another way to spark one's imagination and motivation. Especially so at this particular time of the year; at Christmas time.

I have to admit that December is usually the time when I get a lot of my inspiration. Not just to write Christmas stories but almost anything else as well. This particular time of the year often puts me in the mood to think, create, and write. I am not sure why; it could be any reason. Anything from the spreading of joy and good cheer to wanting to share. Whatever it is, I do think that many of us could use this time of the year to increase our writing.

A very Merry Christmas to you!

Donna J. Jodhan, AKA Detective DJ

Section: Please Join My Campaign Against Bullying (CAB):
***************************************

This is a personal message from author Donna Jodhan: "Each time we raise our voice at someone else we are engaging in bullying! Each time we raise our hands to slap or punch someone else we are also engaging in bullying and each time we engage in actions to either manipulate or force someone else to do what we want we are also engaging in bullying!

There is no room in this world for bullying and each day we fail to take action against bullying it is another day that we allow others to bully us and our kids. Our heros and role models are the ones who have made us proud; those brave young men and women who gave their lives for us in past wars and those who continue to do so. They are not the ones who choose to be racists and those who believe that their bad behaviour in public is acceptable.

I write and record audio mysteries that are being used at such events as murder mystery evenings as well as at public awareness and team building events. I promote understanding, tolerance, and problem solving and my audio mysteries continue to be broadcasted around the world and you can listen to them anywhere! On the plane or train! In the car or right there in your home! On your i-device or computer!

Please join my Campaign Against Bullying (CAB) by supporting my efforts to keep on writing and recording! "If you truly care then you will certainly dare!"

Section: Mystery of the Month:
***************************************

This month, I'd like to whet your appetite with a brief description of one of my audio mysteries that I have chosen for you. This one is called "The Kidnappers Kid" and here is a brief description: Greg Napeyian thought that he had solved all of his problems.
Rich, successful, and with two terrific sons.
All was well until someone in his past came back to haunt him.
He could not stop his demise.

Who could have killed Greg and why?
Who could have the greatest motive for committing this horrendous crime?

The killing had seemed simple enough. The killer simply entered through the French doors as his victim was reading a book and did not hear as the French doors were softly pried open. By the time he realized that someone was close by it was too late. The killer had found the poker and had wasted no time. He struck hard and connected; killing Greg with one single blow. Then he then exited back through the French doors and disappeared into the night.

November 2014
Finding a Theme

One should never be afraid of the writer's block; it happens when you least expect it but I have found that one of the quickest and easiest ways to get out of this is for you to try and find a theme that you can concentrate on and then focus all of your attention on it.

Finding a theme may not be as difficult as you may think. You could certainly help yourself in this area by starting small and then building from there. Maybe just looking at a tree, a flower, a bird in flight, or even up at the sky could be the spark you need to find a theme.

I enlighten the finding of a theme to this: You roll out your canvas in front of you, gather your paint brushes, and then you stand still and quiet and look straight ahead at your canvas. Presto! You would be amazed to see how quickly your imagination would take over and the rest as they say will be history.

You could find a theme practically anywhere! In a busy mall or coffee shop, at the park or beach, on a moving train or bus, on a plane, or even sitting quietly at home.

So just go out there and find your theme!

October 2014
Using The Seasons

You would be absolutely amazed to learn how you can use the four seasons to help you create and write masterpieces. Mother Nature sure has a way of helping us out whenever we need it and each season has its very own attributes and variables to help you do just that.

If we were to look at each season individually, we would easily see what I am trying to tell you. Spring: Gentle rain, fresh breezes, chirping birds, fragrant flowers, swaying trees, green grass, and on it goes. If you were to think of any of these themes you could easily take any of them and start developing your canvas from here on. Any of these themes can be used to paint scenes in your mind.

Summer: Bright sunshine, blue skies, white puffy clouds, kids in the park, dogs running around. Again, themes that you can use to do almost anything; from creating scenes to titles for your story.

Fall: Wet leaves scattered about, trees all coloured in reds and oranges, cool biting winds, shorter days and longer nights, soaked and sodden grass. Very definite themes that can be used in any way you see fit.

Winter: Fresh fallen snow, crunching ice under foot, howling winds, gloomy sky. All of these themes belong to winter scenes and you can use them to paint pictures.

So you see, you can definitely use any of the four seasons to help you develop your story lines.

So use the seasons to help you create, develop, and imagine.

Section: Mystery of the Month:

This month, I'd like to whet your appetite with a brief description of one of my audio mysteries that I have chosen for you. This one is called "The Million Dollar Mansion" and here is a brief description:

Sometimes, one's luck simply runs out, and this is what happened to ruthless Will Lufthouse.
Will was ruthless, a blackmailer, and a bully.
He built his business and reputation on all of this but alas!
Time ran out for ruthless Will.

Who could have done it?
Was it Judge Peaches Pearson who was running out of money?
And who was also growing tired of Ruthless Will and his demands?
Or was it Chad Loantree, a corporate executive who was tired of paying blackmail to ruthless Will because he had something on him?
Or was it Dr. Curt Richardson who did not want to pay anything to Will because he hated to be pushed around?
Or maybe it was Lea Anderson, Will's ex-wife who had reached her end with Will because of his incessant demands and he wanted her back but she did not want him?

September 2014
How News Items Could Help

You would be amazed to learn how you can use news items to help kick start a sluggish imagination on any given day. Most authors often run into what we call writer's block, and sometimes it is a bit difficult to pull out of it.

Not to worry though, this condition often does not last for too long and I have found that by listening to the news there is often some item or bulletin that would jump out at me and if I take the time to listen a bit more closely I can find either some sentence, group of words, or some theme from said item to help me germinate the beginnings of a story that I can later develop into a full blown mystery.

Ideas often flow into our minds from the least expected corners of our daily lives, and listening to news items is no different. Give this a try and see how you do.

Happy listening to those breaking news items!

Donna J. Jodhan, AKA Detective DJ

August 2014
The Power of Quietude

You would be amazed to know how you can use quietude to help you think, create, and develop. Trust me when I tell you that there is absolutely nothing better than using the power of quietude to help you get ahead.

I do most of my writing either very early in the morning or in the early hours of the evening. All is quiet then. I can hear myself think and breathe and I can manage to organize my thoughts in a cohesive manner.

At these times of the day, the phones are silent. Your inbox's activity is probably at its lowest and you can probably ignore your i-device for a period of time.

There is nothing worse than having to work in the middle of noise whether or not it is white noise or regular noise. When all is quiet you can think and you can breathe. You have the space to organize your thoughts and expand your imagination to reach for the stars. Why not give it a try?

Use the power of quietude to help you get ahead.

July 2014
Using images to Transform

For this month, I'd like to introduce you to yet another neat way of transforming and creating. It all has to do with using images to help you do just that. As someone who is blind, I find this strategy to be very affective.

You are probably wondering how I do this and I'll tell you. I dip into my memory bank to retrieve images of all kinds, sizes, and shapes and I can do this because up until 2004, I had enough vision to see images. I can still remember them all and whenever I wish to use an image to help me create then I simply go to my memory bank.

Conjuring up images can help you to imagine and explore. It can certainly help you to improve and expand your imagination and you would be very surprised to see how you can allow yourself to drift from scene to scene without too much difficulty.

Just sit back and enjoy it all! Happy transforming through imaging.

June 2014
Using The Sense of Smell to Develop Ideas

For this month, I'd like to introduce another way for you to develop your ideas. You may find this suggestion a bit different but trust me when I tell you that it does indeed work.

This may be a good month for you to try out this suggestion as you will no doubt be experiencing the smells of both spring and summer. I use my sense of smell to help me to develop my ideas. I use various smells and fragrances to help me with my writing.

For example: The scent or smell of roses helps me to imagine scenes of rose gardens, walking in a garden on a bright spring day or vases of flowers in a dining room. The delicious smell of baking cookies helps me to formulate scenes that could take place in a kitchen, or scenes of customers in a bakery. The smell of clothes being washed in my washer can help me to develop a scene of someone folding freshly laundered clothes or a mom dressing her little ones in fresh clean garments.

You see, you can easily use your sense of smell to help you associate scenes and objects and bring them together on your mind's canvas. It is really not too difficult and you can have lots of fun and success doing it.

Happy imagining through smelling!

Donna J. Jodhan AKA Detective DJ

Section: The Mysterious World of Detective DJ:
***************************************

For this month I am going to tell you how Detective DJ went about creating her team! You already know that Detective DJ and Author Donna Jodhan are one and the same and that the author used her initials to create the character Detective DJ.

The fictional team was developed strictly on a fictional basis and the characters each possess a bit of the author's own personality. We'll briefly describe the first two characters for this month and then talk about the other three characters next month.

DR Shay Harrington is a psychologist who attended school with Author Donna and her character is very similar to that of author Donna. However, DR Shay has other characteristics that make her different. She is married with twins; a boy and a girl and author Donna has a twin brother. DR Shay is quiet, a bit shy, and extremely reflective; similar to author Donna. She has a passion for traveling, ice skating, and chess but this is where her similarities to the author ends. DR Shay has another side to her! Mysterious and private and a lot of her work as a psychologist is top secret!

Chip Sanderson is the private investigator to this team and he is very similar to the author in that he loves investigative work but there is more to him than this. He is divorced with two daughters and they are the pride and joy of his life. He loves to ski, hike, and fish! He engages in wine making and loves a good social life! However, his work always comes first! He has been involved in the solving of many international high profile crimes and he is a schoolmate of the author.

Next month, you'll meet the remaining three characters of detective DJ's crime crushers team!

1) A step forward has been made in accessibility to free Office suites with the release of OpenOffice 4.1 with built-in iAccessible2 support. Screen readers with this support should, in theory, be able to work with OO out of the box, without the need to install Java Access Bridge. Reportedly, support is best with NVDA, with the most recent update for JAWS, which works in most places and forthcoming versions of Window-Eyes may also have support:

2) GW Micro has announced that it has expanded its services beyond software and hardware for people who are blind or visually impaired. It will now be offering services to organizations who are required to develop, procure, maintain and use electronic and information technology (EIT) that is accessible to people with disabilities. GW Micro's accessibility services will also be available to any person or organization who is interested in making their websites, documents or software accessible and compliant with Section 508 standards, the Americans with Disability Act (ADA), or the internationally recognized Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0.

May 2014
Using Music to Generate

For this month, I'd like to focus on how one can use music to help generate ideas and get into the right mood. You would be really surprised to know how music can help you to generate ideas as well as help to put you in the right type of mood.

I often use music to help me get started. Music is so very flexible and fascinating when it comes to being a great tool for generating. Sometimes, it takes me a bit of time before I can find just the right piece of music or song to do the trick. If I am having difficulty concentrating and focusing then I go to my favorites folders and start working through my collection.

There is not really any specific type of music that I use. It can be anything from classic to easy listening, or anything from easy rock to soft disco. It could even be anything from a Christmas carol or song to a popular ballad. Sometimes I may even go to my keyboard and compose something to help me get a kick start.

I invite you to give this strategy a try. And happy generating with music.

Donna J. Jodhan AKA Detective DJ

Section: The Mysterious World of Detective DJ:
***************************************

Last month I promised to tell you what Detective DJ does in order to recharge and relax. It is really very simple!

This hard working detective is extremely organized and each day she puts aside specific times for doing such things as exercising on her stationary bike, taking time to inhale the fresh air, and spending time just meditating for a few minutes. If there is any spare time left she plays chess and composes on her electronic keyboard. She loves the beach, ice skating, and enjoys healthy and stimulating conversation.

For next month, I'll tell you how the good detective went about creating her fictional team.

April 2014
Using Colors and Shapes to Create

For this month, I'd like to zoom in on how you can use colors and shapes to help you create. It probably sounds like what kids do and in actuality it probably is not that much different. You can definitely use colors and shapes to help you create and it is a great way to help stimulate your imagination and thought process. You can use this technique to help develop scenes in your mind.

Here is an example. Think of the color yellow and next pick a shape. I'll start with a circle and then we'll go from there. Yellow, and a circle. This may first seem to you as being a bit abstract or maybe a bit strange but allow me to go on.

Yellow happens to be my favorite color so when I think of yellow I think of things such as bright yellow curtains, bright yellow shirts, and bright yellow cups and saucers. Next for the circle and I'll think of a yellow circle in the sky; maybe the sun? A bright yellow circle, maybe a piece of beach land? A bright yellow circle, the light of a candle in a dark room?

If you find it difficult to combine the two then take one at a time and after generating images in your head you are now ready to start developing a scene in your mind. Here is an example.

A room with yellow curtains. A carpet with yellow circles for patterns. A circular lawn with yellow flowers adorning it. Circles on a sidewalk. These are all bits and pieces for you to use to develop scenes.

There you have it and happy shaping and coloring!

Last month I promised to share some of the techniques that I use to tell the rest of the world about Detective DJ and it's all about using social media in addition to my website.

I use Twitter and Facebook to spread the word about my character. I use tweets to direct followers to my www.donnajodhan.com website and then my tweets are redirected to Facebook. I tweet daily and tweet more than once. I do my best to come up with interesting tweets. There is no fast and hard way to success here; simply persistence!

For next month, I'll tell you what detective DJ does in order to relax and recharge.

This month, I'd like to whet your appetite with a brief description of one of my audio mysteries that I have chosen for you. This one is called "The Senator's Secrets" and here is a brief description:

Young, goodlooking, and brilliant!
Who says that success does not come with a price tag?
Especially when there are secrets lurking in the background and this was part of Senator Christian Jansen's downfall.
He had absolutely no chance!

Who could have done it?
There was someone who did not want the senator to run as president because he would be too difficult to handle.
There was a Mafia boss who felt that the senator would be dangerous to them as president and he knew about Christian's previous association with the Mafia high-up.
There was yet another who wanted the good senator dead because his oil company wanted to punish the senator for having broken his promise to them.
There was someone who had something on the senator from his past which could destroy his career if publicized.

Section: Some Friendly Advice From Author Donna Jodhan:
***************************************

March 2014
Listen and Learn

For this month, I'd like to put forward the following suggestion: As an author I find that by listening and learning it sure helps me to generate ideas and in my world it's all about being able to listen and then learn from what I have listened to and then to generate the ideas from what I have learned.

First, I narrow down what I would like to listen to at the moment. It can be anything from listening to the babble of a brook, the gentle roll of the sea, the horns of cars, or even a documentary. Then I choose specifically what I want to zoom in on and then I go from there.

You may be saying to yourself then what really can you learn from listening to a brook or the sea? For me, the sounds of these two things teach me about the type of sounds they make as they go about their business and then I begin to develop my ideas and themes from them. For example: Just listening to the babble of a brook would help me to develop a scene in my mind and ditto from listening to the roll of the sea.

This is how I connect my dots when generating ideas.

Happy listening!

Donna J. Jodhan AKA Detective DJ

Last month, I promised to unveil the true identity of our Detective DJ and now it's time! Detective DJ and Author Donna Jodhan are one and the same! Yes! We are one and the same and I believe that this is what helps me to be a bit unique as an author among other things.

I write and record my own mysteries in first person and I believe that by doing this, it gives me more latitude to develop plots and insert the characteristics of Detective DJ that enable me to include bits and pieces of my own personality. I can think more clearly as Detective DJ and have better control over my plots. I am sure that there are many authors out there who use similar techniques.

For next month, I'll share some of my techniques for how I go about telling the rest of the world about Detective DJ.

Section: Mystery of the Month:
***************************************

This month, I'd like to whet your appetite with a brief description of one of my audio mysteries that I have chosen for you.

This one is called "The Norwegian Nutcracker" and here is a brief description:

Matt Gregos never had a chance in life.
He had done everything right; he was honest and hard working but alas!
Jealousy played a hand in his murder and how it was done was quite different!

Who could have done it?
There was someone who had wanted to take control of Matt's business.
There was someone who had wanted the victim to keep his secret to the end.
There was someone who had wanted the victim to rejoin the drug world.

You can purchase this audio mystery for the very affordable price of $0.99 USD. Each of my audio mysteries cost $0.99 USD and you can purchase an entire season of 13 mysteries for the very low price of $9.99 USD.

Section: Some Friendly Advice From Author Donna Jodhan:
***************************************

For February 2014 I'd like to offer the following tips on creative thinking.

If you like to create through thinking then this is a good start and what exactly do I mean by creative thinking? I look at it like this; being able to think outside of the box. Many authors would readily tell you that creative thinking helps them to get a jump start. In order to avoid prolonged periods of writer's block, creative thinking can be used.

Creative thinking can be compared to being able to put your thoughts down on paper, or to create through painting, drawing, singing, or even playing an instrument. As a matter of fact, you can use creative thinking to do other things that I have mentioned.

Creative thinking can be looked upon as the gateway to the development of thoughts and ideas and the beauty about creative thinking is that you can do it almost anywhere. From the noisiest spot to the quietest place.

So happy creative thinking!
Donna J. Jodhan AKA Detective DJ

Section: The Mysterious World of Detective DJ:
***************************************

For February 2014, I'd like to introduce you to my fictional support team.

Meet DR Shay Harrington: My residential psychologist who spends much of her time trying to get into the head of the perpetrator.
Meet Chip Sanderson: My right hand person and private investigator.
Meet DR Ryan Martini: My resident crimes scene specialist.
Meet DR Nicholas Gascay: My resident pathologist.
Meet Alex Kerchov: My resident computer guru.

Each time member has a definite part to play in the plot and as my mysteries go, they present reports to the team and after reviewing them carefully, it is I who makes the final decision as to who the suspect should be.

In the first two seasons, each audio mystery is a single episode but for season three audio mysteries will be greatly expanded to include more suspense, drama, and intrigue. I have done this in response to comments and feedback that I have received and I thank those who have taken the time to provide me with terrific suggestions.

For next month, I'll let you into a secret about the true identity of detective DJ but in the meantime, happy listening!
